Join us on a day where you discover the sea and what lives in it in completely new ways. I will take you to the far side of Styrsö where the sea meets the horizon. Along our path grow many of the beach's edible plants. You will learn to recognize some of them and we will pick some with us for our meal.
During our seaweed safari, you will experience the seaweed that lives both close to the surface and a little deeper. You can choose whether you want to follow along and see life beneath the surface. If you prefer to stay on land, that's fine too.
I show you how you can pick seaweed with respect to the ecosystems, and you get an inspiring moment where we take a closer look at some seaweed varieties that are tasty and easy to recognize.
You will learn how to use seaweed in your own kitchen and why seaweed is so good, both for us and our oceans.
We finish by cooking together a delicious meal with simple cooking methods where the seaweed, the edible beach plants together with locally produced ingredients and food crafts.

About Algblomman
Hey. My name is Karolina Martinson and I live on Styrsö in the southern archipelago of Gothenburg. For more than 15 years I have had a passionate interest in our fine Swedish seaweed, and in creating a Swedish food culture where seaweed has an obvious place on our plates. I call myself a seaweed diver, sustainability inspirer and ambassador for the new sustainable Blue industries of the future, and I just love being able to tell you in as many different ways as possible about how you can pick and enjoy the seaweed and the beach plants, but also about how we can relate to the sea and the raw materials that come from it in a more sustainable way. Now and in the future.
In 2021, one of my dreams came true, and together with Linnea Sjögren I got to publish the book *** [Picking seaweed and beach plants] (https://www.algblomman.com/boken) *** at Natur och Kultur förlag.
I am convinced that one of our very best ways to learn and understand new things is through what we experience. Therefore, I want to show you how good the future can taste, how beautiful it can be, awaken your love for the sea and its inhabitants and at the same time have fun on the way. Get in touch and I'll tell you more.
